Architecture Overview

The HA deployment runs Keycloak as a StatefulSet across multiple Kubernetes pods behind a layer-7 load balancer. Infinispan provides distributed session caching with cross-site replication, while PostgreSQL 16 handles persistent storage with streaming replication for automatic failover.

Session Persistence

User sessions and authentication states are replicated across all Keycloak pods via Infinispan’s distributed cache with synchronous replication. Session affinity is maintained at the load balancer level, but any pod can serve any session, ensuring zero-downtime rolling updates and seamless failover.

Disaster Recovery

Blue-green deployment strategy allows instant rollback on failed upgrades. PostgreSQL streaming replication provides a hot standby with sub-second failover, and Infinispan cross-data-center replication enables active-passive DR configurations with RPO under 1 second across availability zones.

Why in 2026

99.99% uptime is table stakes. HA Keycloak on K8s with proper session persistence makes it achievable.
